Past Activities & Events (2022)

Welcome to the SoSE 2022 which take place on 10th December 2022 in virtual platform, ZOOM.

The Symposium on Science Education 2022 (SoSE 2022), now into its 9th year, aims once again to showcase different ideas and techniques on innovative and effective teaching methods for STEM subjects.

With the theme of “Empowering STEM Education Through Innovation Pedagogies", the symposium takes cognizance of the fact that digital technologies are part of innovative teaching methods in order to facilitate the teaching and learning of STEM to engage students' learning especially during pandemic era.

Nationwide, there is a steady decline in enrolment of students for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects or courses. This is a cause for concern because advancement of science and technology would define the country’s progress towards achieving its national key result areas.

This development is recognised by the education policy makers as well as institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. In cognizance of this concern, UTAR aim to make a difference. It is our mission to ensure that student interest in STEM subjects/courses remains a prominent and lasting feature wherever these are offered.

Technology has significantly transformed the way we live. Manual jobs will soon be replaced. Many students do not have enterprising skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and digital literacy, that help them to survive. This talk discusses how design thinking helps teachers develop their students’ future skills. The target audience or participants of this talk will be educators from countries within the Asia-Pacific. This talk will sensitize educators to the idea of facilitating or helping their students to build skills and abilities that will sustain their continuous learning through the framework of Design Thinking. The participants will participate in a virtual 1-hour talk, and there will be a two-way interaction between the speaker and the participants. APSCE will give certificates to participants who attend the talk upon request.

Dr. Eunice Sari is the CEO and Co-Founder of UX Indonesia, the first insight-driven UX Research, Training, and Consulting Company based in Indonesia since 2002, and co-founder of Customer Experience Insight Pte Ltd, Australia. Her works have brought her to the next level as the first Asian female Google Developer Expert in Product Design and Strategy and the first Asian female Google Certified Design Sprint Master. Having more than 18 years of experience in academics and industries, she currently serves as the Google Mentor for Google Startups and many mentors for many private and government-initiative accelerators.
